Bread of Life (our consolation)

This is a reflective hymn about the Eucharist.

It was written by American Roman Catholic musician, troubadour/evangelist and co-founder of the Holy Family Apostolate, Michael John Poirier.  It was included on his 1992 album, Ocean of Mercy (ref). released under the Mystical Rose Publishing, LLC label, and still available from Apple Music (#affiliatelink).

It is set to an unnamed tune, also by Poirier. This has a 4/4 time signature. In the key of E, the first few notes of the melody are E_ F_ E_ z  E C_ E  CBB_  with accompanying chords  E / B / C#m / A / E / B.

Sheet music was published in the 20th century by World Library Publications, but no current in-print sheet music has been located.

The lyrics are copyright so cannot be reproduced here. But they are currently available on this website. A rough outline is:
1. Bread of life our consolation
Bread of life, our source of hope
Bread of life our strength and courage
Bread of life come make us one.

2. Lamb of God for all you suffered
Lamb of God you died and rose
Lamb of God, you’ll come in glory
Lamb of God to lead us home.

3. Word of God, O light eternal
Word of God, foundation strong
Word of God resound within us,
Word of God forever more.
