Take and Eat (come have your fill now) - Bates

This is a gentle, reflective hymn of invitation to the Eucharist

It was written by Australian Roman Catholic teacher, singer-songwriter and at-the-time  member of the Marist (SM) order, (Philip?) Phil Bates (-2011) (source).

It was written in 1985 and first published by C.A.V.C.   It was later published in Gather Australia, which was published in 1995 by NLMC Publications and GIA Publications Inc, and edited by Jane Wood - but these books are both long out-of-print, and no further publications have been found.

The song is set to an unnamed tune, also by Bates. This has a 3/4 time signature. In the key of C, the first few notes of the melody are E_ F G_  /   A, F_E  DCD    with accompanying chords  C / F / Gsus.

However the vocal range required to sing this tune is very challenging, reaching up to high-f in the chorus, followed by a sustained high-c.   An alternative setting in Bb is given below, which may be easier, though it does have several low Gs.
