I am Catholic! I am Alive (Jesus Christ the Son of God )

This is a hymn about Jesus Christ. The verses are about his mission and celebration the first Eucharist, while the chorus is a celebration and statement of the implications of being Catholic.

It was written as the official song of an the Archdiocesan Eucharistic Congress hosted by the Archdiocese of Bombay in 2014.  This congress was held to mark the 50th anniversary of Bombay hosting the 38th International Eucharistic Congress in 1964.

The words were written by Indian (Goanese) Roman Catholic priest, musician and singer, Fr. Reuben Tellis and Indian Roman Catholic music-industry professional and singer Dominique Cerejo. The tune was composed and arranged by Cerejo and her husband and fellow Indian Roman Catholic music-industry professional, Clinton Cerejo.

Parts of the tune of the verses are similar to Scottish folk-song The Work of the Weavers which was written in the 1840s (though some people think it was adapted from an older Swedish tune). Later the tune was used for The Welly Boot song which was written by poet George McEwan and made famous by Scottish Billy Connolly, and adapted to "If it weren't for your gumboots" by New Zealand entertainer John Clarke.

Lyrics

The lyrics are copyright so cannot be reproduced here. But they are currently available on this websiteon this website. A rough outline is:
1. Jesus Christ the Son of God was born for you and me.
He came to bring the Good News from sin to set us free.
The blind, the deaf, the lame, the poor, His power were meant to see.
He gave His life upon the Cross, eternal life the key.

2. He broke bread and shared wine before His agony.
We share the Body and Blood in His memory.
To make His message known is our responsibility.
So here we are to pledge our lives to the Lord of eternity.

Chorus:
I am Catholic I am alive
I am the Gospel, I am the light
I am Catholic I am alive
I am the leaven, the salt am I
I am Catholic I am alive
I’ll be a witness, I’ll let Him shine
I am Catholic I am alive
I’ll always follow, The Lord of life
I am Catholic I am alive, alive
I am Catholic, I am alive.

3. We carry Christ in our hearts in what we do and say.
We raise our voices with the Truth for those who’ve gone astray.
Nourished by the Eucharist we build community.
So here we are to pledge our lives to the Lord of eternity.
