The words were written by Irish Roman Catholic composer and liturgical musician Bernard Sexton, for use in the Alive-O religious education programme which was commissioned by the Irish Episcopal Conference.
It is set to an unnamed tune composed by Sexton. This has a 2/2 time signature. In the key of E, the first few notes of the melody are GG GG BB BB E_.
The hymn does not appear to have been published in any mainstream hymnals, or receive much use outside of Ireland.
