It was included in the album "Wake Up the Earth," which was released by North American Liturgy Resources in 1983 (ref).
It the 1990s, the song was included in Alive-O, a primary school religious programme used in Ireland. It was widely used in First Confession and First Communion preparation, and thus is known to a generation or two of Irish people.
It is set to an unnamed tune, also by Miffleton . This has a 4/4 time signature. In the key of D, the first few notes are A A B F G A.
There is sheet music in circulation which attributes the song to American liturgical musician Grayson Warren Brown - but this is not correct: The words and tune in Brown's version of "My Shepherd is the Lord" are quite different.

1 My shepherd is the Lord He tends all my needs.
... He shepherds me.
2 Sometimes when I’m afraid, sad and all alone,
3 You give me food to eat, bless me every day.
4 My shepherd is the Lord ....
