My Soul is Longing for your Peace - Deiss

This hymn about God's peace is a setting of Psalm 130 (131).

It was written by French Roman Catholic Spiritan (Holy Ghost) priest and composer Lucien Deiss CSSp (1921-2007), and first published in 1965 by World Library Publications.

It is set to an unnamed tune, also by Deiss. This is a chant based setting, changing time signature several times. If it is thought of in the key of Dm, the first few notes if the refrain are A AA cc AG F, with accompanying chords F / Am / Bb / Dm.

Abandoned boat in shallow waters on a deserted beach at sunset - My soul is longing for your peace, near to you my God. 1. Lord, you know that my heart is not proud, and my eyes are not lifted from the earth. 2. Lofty thoughts have never filled my mind, Far beyond my sights all ambitious deeds. 3. In your peace I have maintained my soul; I have kept my heart in your quiet peace. 4. As a child rests on his mother’s knee, So I place my soul in your loving care 5. Israel, put all your hope in God, Place all your trust in him, now and evermore.

Refrain:
My soul is longing for your peace, near to you my God.

1. Lord, you know that my heart is not proud ...

2. Lofty thoughts have never filled my mind ...

3. In your peace I have maintained my soul ...

4. As a child rests on his mother’s knee ...

5. Israel, put all your hope in God ...

Refrain:
My soul is longing for your peace, near to you my God.

1. Lord, you know that my heart is not proud,
And my eyes are not lifted from the earth.

2. Lofty thoughts have never filled my mind,
Far beyond my sights all ambitious deeds.

3. In your peace I have maintained my soul;
I have kept my heart in your quiet peace.

4. As a child rests on his mother’s knee,
So I place my soul in your loving care

5. Israel, put all your hope in God,
Place all your trust in him, now and evermore.
